Kodiak Fish Co. sockeye salmon is harvested at Outlook Cove by the Mutch family. Most of these salmon come from the Karluck River. At Outlook Cove we harvest salmon by set net gill netting. This method involves fishing gear being attached to land and harvesting the seafood by running a skiff (small boat) along the net and picking the fish by hand.
"The Mutch family is third generation fisher folk. We spend our winters in town on Kodiak island and the summers out harvesting wild Alaskan salmon. Our family is involved in fisheries year round, but the summer salmon run is when we get to all come together.
We love being able to connect directly with the people who consume our seafood we worked so hard to harvest. All of our frozen seafood is traceable back to the fisherman who harvested it from the sea."
